I first heard about the letter for the king when i happened to watch bits of the film version (dutch with subtitles) on tv some time ago, and when i noticed the book on netgalley, of course i couldn’t resist putting in a request.

The letter for the king tries so hard to make its story a sweeping, engrossing saga that it sometimes loses itself in the magnitude it's attempting to convey. If it does get a second season, hopefully the series will expand on its positive aspects—young appealing leads, gorgeous scenery, valuable life lessons—while paring down on the pointless plots and tired meandering.
